Apply for your PSS permit directly from TfL following these steps

All HGV’s over 12T GVW need a star rating – this can only be given by the manufacturer.

You can get this from the manufacturer directly or with your registration number, we can check the star rating for you.

To get the star rating from manufacturers, you need to send the chassis number to the dealership.

0, 1 and 2 star rated vehicles – go to step 2 (DVS & PSS Compliance)

3, 4 or 5 star rated vehicles - go to step 3

If your vehicle is rated under 3 stars, you must install the recommended PSS safety equipment prior to applying for your permit from TfL.

PSS SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Permits are free of charge and you can apply online

If your vehicle is 0, 1 or 2 star rated and you have installed all of the required PSS safety equipment you can apply for a permit.

If your vehicles 3 star or above, you can apply for a 10 year permit directly from Transport for London.

Please be mindful that applications require 2 photographs and may also require additional supporting documentation to complete the application.

Note applications need to be approved and are not immediate - please allow time as until the permit is approved and granted, you will still be fined.‍
APPLY FOR YOUR DVS / PSS PERMIT

To apply for your PSS permit you will need to go directly to the Transport for London website.

Please be mindful that applications require 2 photographs and may require additional supporting documentation to complete the application.

You will also require a Certificate of Conformity (for the equipment that has been installed) and also a Certificate on Installation (provided and signed for by the installation company, or if it is self installed a declaration to say you have installed it correctly)

Note applications need to be approved and are not immediate - please allow time as until the permit is approved and granted, you will still be fined.

what you need to know

Over 250,000 vehicles applied for the original DVS permits.
Any vehicles rated under 3 stars need to update to PSS.
Thousands more vehicles do not have DVS permits and will be under 3 stars. These will require permits to access London without being fined.

Progressive safe system

Relevant to all HGV's (over 12T GVW) rated 0, 1 and 2 stars. This came into enforcement from 28th October 2024
